Dylan’s 1st Birthday Party!!!

Well Dylan isn’t exactly “1” yet, but we celebrated with his birthday party this weekend. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Dylan have so much fun!!! We had some great friends and family there and it really helped make the day so special for us. I was getting a little nervous with a few friends canceling days before, but even if no one showed up it still would’ve been so worth it to see my baby smile and laugh as much as he did. The staff at Gymboree were so helpful during the entire party. I didn’t really have to set anything up and they packed/cleaned everything before I even realized the party was over...it was great!

His “cupcake” theme was a big hit (from the plates and the cake...even his shirt!) and I couldn’t have pictured the day going any better. It helped that Dylan managed to get 2 naps prior. Even though we had to wake the b-day boy from a monster nap right before leaving, he was so chipper and excited...almost as if he knew what was about to happen! And although I was running around the entire time trying to mingle with friends and snap as many memories with my camera as humanly possible (over 300 pictures to be exact), I really had to make myself stand back and watch my beautiful baby “toddler” and just reflect on the past year...the best year of my life.

Keith and I are so blessed to have amazing friends and family that were able to help celebrate with us, but most importantly, an amazingly adorable son that has completely filled our lives with endless love and laughter...happy 1st birthday, Dylan Cole!

11 months!

Can’t believe it...only 1 more month to go! This has been a good month for Dylan. He cut 4 teeth on his top gums and they are on their way out. We are also feeding Dylan most of what we eat (in small pieces of course) and sadly, the only food he hasn’t been open to yet is pasta. I think it’s slowly killing the Italian side of Keith :( He is also starting to push away from the bottle because he wants to eat solids. That will make it SO much easier for us once he turns a year.

Unfortunately Dylan got sick again this month. He had croup and missed a week of school. I’ve never seen him so sick and it made me miserable. But with the help of a steroid shot and some antibiotics I got my happy baby back!

Dylan is still not crawling but is definitely on the move. He will get on his hands and knees, rock a bit, and begin to move. But then he’ll change his mind and butt-scoot instead. He’s also pulling up more and getting on his knees. And he also learned how sit up from being on his back. Dylan is also starting to perfect his pincer grasp when eating solids...especially when enjoying his waffle and string cheese, his new faves. All big steps for the little guy!

10 months!

Only 2 more months to go! I finally realized that today and started planning some things for Dylan’s 1st birthday party. I hope I don’t go overboard!

Well, Dylan finally got some teeth!!! His 2 bottom teeth popped out around 9 1/2 months. Its so nice to see that toothy grin now. Dylan also started saying “dada” and making Keith’s day.

Dylan started eating chicken this month (that mommy bakes and purees first thing in the morning so I don’t forget) and loves it with some vegetables for dinner. He is also feeding himself his finger foods better (meaning his aim is better getting his puffs in his mouth) and he is lifting his sippy cup more without our help. He has also started eating cookies for a snack, but we have to watch him to make sure he doesn’t shove the whole thing in his mouth all at once...he loves him some cookies!

Dylan is still not crawling, but he is still pushing himself backwards. He is also butt-scooting everywhere now and we really have to keep an eye on where he is going. He leaves a “trail of destruction” (as Keith likes to call it) wherever he goes. He also loves clapping for himself and imitating us whenever we do it!

9 months!

It really is amazing how fast time flies! Dylan is 3 months away from the Big 1! He is still sleeping about 11 hours at night (7pm-6am) and only wakes up on nights when he’s teething. Speaking of teeth, we still don’t have any. But that didn’t stop him from trying out some finger foods! He loves the Gerber puffs and yogurt melts and is feeding them to himself too, when he wants to. But he’s just as content when mommy and daddy put them in his mouth for him. He is still trying new foods like sweet peas, carrots, cherries, and blueberries. We see Dr. Coco on Tuesday and can’t wait for him to recommend some protein in his diet (he told us we could put that on hold because he’s so “healthy”). Dylan also started eating some yogurt during snack time with his friends at school and is even using a sippy cup now! He still needs some help lifting up the cup though.

Due to the crazy weather that brought 6 inches of snow to North Texas, we’ve had a lot of snow days with Dylan this month...and loved every one! But unfortunately the winter as also brought along cold season and Dylan did end up getting RSV this month. But a few antibiotics later and he was back to normal! We’re so happy it didn’t get any worst than it did!

Dylan isn’t crawling yet, but he is scooting around the room on his bottom and his stomach. He is pushing himself backwards and is beginning to rock on all fours, which his teacher says are all good signs that we’re getting there. He is also standing better when holding on to something and pulling himself up. And even though he is lagging on his gross motor development, he is excelling in language development. He will babble all day long saying “mamamabababama” and I swear he imitated “ball” a few days ago. And I’m the speech path, so what I say goes! And yesterday we rode our 1st DART train to downtown Dallas for some lunch and sightseeing. I can’t wait to see what he’ll start doing this month!

Snow Days with Dylan

We are on our 4th Snow Day! We have been home since Tuesday due to an ice storm that hit and then 6 inches of snow that came down last night. Keith and I have had so much fun being able to stay home with Dylan and even more fun getting to play in the snow with him again. We’ve had so much play time and are getting a lot of good crawling practice in...hopefully soon! We hope to get out of the house tomorrow!
